Austrian authorities officially inaugurated a new police station in the building where Adolf Hitler was born. The renovation of the property in Braunau am Inn followed years of legal and administrative discussions regarding the future of the site.
The Austrian government took control of the building in 2016 through a compulsory purchase order. Officials stated that the conversion into a police station was intended to prevent the location from serving as a destination or commemorative site for Nazi sympathizers.
The exterior of the building was modified to change its appearance as part of the redevelopment project. A stone memorial remains in front of the site, which carries an inscription advocating for peace and democracy and warning against fascism.
