The Plain Record follows the work of government — bills, hearings, votes, budgets, and spending — along with the national and human-interest news that shapes daily life. Every story is summarized so that a reader can understand the who, what, when, where, and why without needing prior knowledge of the subject.

We do not run clickbait headlines. A headline states what happened. We avoid loaded or partisan language, attribute contested claims to the people making them, and give competing positions comparable weight. When facts are disputed or unknown, we say so instead of guessing.

Corrections are made in place. When a story changes materially, an update note with the date and time is added at the top of the article rather than quietly editing the original text.

Reporting is drawn from wire services, public-interest newsrooms, and primary public records — including the Associated Press, Reuters, C-SPAN, NPR, PBS NewsHour, BBC, Politico, and congressional records. Each story credits its source and links back to the original report so readers can verify the reporting themselves.
