New South Wales Police are investigating the production of reality television show Married at First Sight Australia following a report of "inappropriate content being shared." The investigation involves Endemol Shine Australia, the company that produces the series for Channel Nine. On Monday, August 24, 2026, officers from the South Sydney Police Area Command attended a set at a Zetland apartment building.
According to reports from TV Blackbox and the Sydney Morning Herald, the investigation was initiated after a male contestant on the upcoming season filed a formal complaint. The contestant alleged that producers sourced private information about him and shared it with his on-screen bride. During the visit to the set, police reportedly conducted interviews and seized mobile phones. NSW Police stated that the matter will be referred to the Western Australia Police Force.
Channel Nine confirmed it is aware of the investigation but directed inquiries to Endemol Shine Australia. As of October 22, 2026, Endemol Shine Australia has not responded to requests for comment. A spokesperson for the Western Australia Police Force stated that the referral from NSW authorities has not yet been received.
The investigation follows previous reports this year where former cast members stated they were not informed about their on-screen partners' prior drug and violence convictions. The show also received three improvement notices from SafeWork NSW last year following allegations of an unsafe work environment.
The UK version of the format is currently undergoing a contributor welfare review by Channel 4 following separate allegations. The immediate next step involves the formal transfer of the case file from New South Wales to Western Australia. While the Australian media watchdog and Ofcom in the UK have expressed concerns about the franchise, the findings of Channel 4’s welfare review are expected to be released as a summary in the near future. Ofcom boss Dame Melanie Dawes recently stated the report was due "any day now."
