Jenitar Na'amoana, 34, gave birth to four identical quadruplet daughters last week at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. The newborns, named Emily, Harriet, Catherine, and Alexa, were delivered at 28 weeks and four days gestation. Dr. Alexa Bendall, a physician at the hospital, reported that all four infants are healthy.
Medical experts stated that the infants are monozygotic, meaning they share 100% of their DNA. This occurs when a single fertilized egg splits into four embryos. Such a pregnancy is estimated to occur naturally in approximately one out of every 15 million births.
The Na'amoana family already included four children prior to this delivery. The parents noted the pregnancy was naturally conceived and unexpected. The infants will likely remain under medical observation due to their premature delivery.
Identical quadruplets are statistically rare. Similar cases have been recorded globally, including a 2020 birth of four identical brothers to a family in Dallas, Texas. Hospital staff and past parents of quadruplets emphasized the importance of strict scheduling and neonatal care for the health of both the mother and the children.
