A fire at the Rong Beer Na Ladprao bar in northern Bangkok on Sunday night resulted in the deaths of at least 33 people and left dozens injured. According to Erawan emergency services, 17 people remained in critical condition as of Wednesday. Wiroon Supasingsiripreecha, chief of the forensic institute, stated that most fatalities were caused by smoke inhalation, while others died from burns.
Among the deceased were four members of the Totsakan band, the venue's house musical group. The band's leader, Atipat Wijan, confirmed that lead singer Nahatai Sajjalert, keyboardist Preutthipong Pudmon, and drummer Nattapat Thamnita died shortly after the incident. A fourth member, singer Thitiwat Kaewkanha, died in the hospital on Wednesday after sustaining burns over 80% of his body.
Thai authorities are currently investigating the cause of the blaze, which survivors reported began near the stage area. Investigators are examining whether the venue used flammable soundproofing foam, if emergency exits were locked or obstructed, and whether the establishment was legally registered. Witnesses described a rapid loss of power and significant smoke immediately following the initial spark.
Families of the victims have raised concerns regarding compensation and accountability. A lawyer for the bar owners stated that families would initially receive 10,000 baht (approximately $300) for funeral costs. However, some family members reported they had not yet been contacted by the owners and stated the offered amount was insufficient to cover expenses.
