RJ Mitte, the actor who portrayed Walter "Flynn" White Jr. on the AMC series "Breaking Bad," has died at the age of 34. His representative, Sean Riley, confirmed the death to CBS News. Mitte, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, also worked as a producer and was an advocate for people with disabilities.
A cause of death was not immediately provided. The actor was recently photographed attending an event in Beverly Hills, California, on September 30, 2026. Prior to his death, he had established a career in television and film, beginning with background work after moving to Los Angeles as a teenager.
Mitte achieved international recognition for his role in "Breaking Bad," which aired from 2008 to 2013. Like his character on the show, Mitte lived with cerebral palsy. While his personal experience with the condition was reported to be milder than that of his character—who used crutches on screen—Mitte utilized his role to promote disability awareness. In 2014, he shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for best drama ensemble with his castmates and received the SAG-AFTRA Howard Russell Award for his advocacy work.
Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's and was president of The Mitte Foundation. Last year, he partnered with Can Do Canines to assist individuals in Wisconsin and Minnesota in obtaining service dogs. In a previous statement, Mitte noted that while he worked to achieve his own level of mobility, he observed that many others did not receive the same opportunities.
The status of Mitte's recent professional commitments, including his work as executive producer on the documentary "Vanished: The Tara Calico Story," remains unclear. No public funeral arrangements or memorial services have been announced as of October 12, 2026.
