CBS News has announced that the Aug. 30 episode of "Sunday Morning," hosted by Jane Pauley, will be a rebroadcast of its "By Design" edition. The program, which originally aired on May 17, 2026, explores various aspects of design, including architecture, fashion, and history, but will also include a new tribute to singer-songwriter Dolly Parton following her death on Aug. 25, 2026.
The episode features segments set in Philadelphia, such as tours of the 750-acre Ardrossan estate and the architectural work of Frank Furness. Other reports cover alternative housing, the history of cartography at the Osher Map Library, and the Finnish company Marimekko. A new memorial segment by correspondent Lee Cowan will honor Parton, who died at age 80, highlighting her career and philanthropy, including her Imagination Library.
One segment focuses on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), secondary homes built on existing residential lots. In Oregon, contractor Jacob Fry and his wife, Elize, built two rental units on their property to address housing shortages caused by wildfires. Correspondent Lee Cowan examines the legal and practical requirements for these units, with context provided by UCLA professor Dana Cuff.
The program also includes a look at the artistic use of dominoes by Lily Hevesh, the history of chandeliers with Mo Rocca, and local Philadelphia traditions like cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, and hoagies.
Viewers can watch the broadcast on CBS at 9:00 a.m. ET or stream it via the CBS News app starting at 11:00 a.m. ET on Aug. 30. A web exclusive features director Jon Favreau discussing "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu."
