Authorities arrested a Kissimmee mother on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, after deputies reported she left her four children home alone for several days to attend a work trip in Las Vegas. Irene Miller, 50, was taken into custody at Orlando International Airport and charged with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
The investigation began on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when a juvenile called 911 just after 8:30 p.m. to report that a dumbbell had fallen on her 9-year-old brother's head. When Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the residence on Parkway Boulevard, they found four children—ages 14, 12, 11, and 9—unsupervised. Emergency responders transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.
Miller told investigators she had left for Las Vegas on Oct. 18 and was scheduled to return on Oct. 23. She stated that a babysitter traveled from Tampa each morning to prepare the children for school and check on them in the afternoon, but was not required to stay overnight. Following the incident, the children's father agreed to take all four children to his residence.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office stated that they will pursue charges against parents who do not provide proper supervision or care. Miller was booked into the Orange County jail following her arrest at the airport. Sheriff Chris Blackmon stated that the agency will investigate cases of alleged neglect. The sources did not report a scheduled court date or the status of Miller's legal representation.
