Former President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he will release a memoir titled "Promise Me, America" on November 17, 2024. The book is scheduled for publication shortly after the upcoming midterm elections. In a video announcement, Biden stated the memoir will detail his time in office and his decision-making process regarding his 2024 reelection campaign and subsequent withdrawal from the race.
The memoir is expected to address several key events from the Biden administration, including the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, and the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. It will also cover international matters such as the strengthening of NATO and U.S. support for Ukraine.
Biden’s announcement follows the recent publication of memoirs by former First Lady Jill Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Some members of the Democratic Party have expressed concern that these retrospective accounts may distract from current party messaging ahead of the midterms. During the announcement, Biden also provided a health update, stating that his treatment for prostate cancer, a diagnosis he shared in May 2023, is progressing well.
This will be Biden's third book. He previously authored "Promises to Keep," which focused on his early political career, and "Promise Me, Dad," which chronicled the illness and death of his son, Beau Biden.
