YouTube content creator Good Good Golf and equipment manufacturer Callaway Golf removed a video advertisement late Friday following criticism over its content. The promotional video for a Callaway golf driver showed a man pushing a woman to the ground to prevent her from touching the equipment.
Good Good Golf, founded as a YouTube channel in 2020, features 12 personalities who participate in matches and skill challenges. The group entered a formal partnership with Callaway Golf in 2023 and is currently scheduled to serve as the title sponsor for an upcoming PGA Tour event.
The video featured two Good Good personalities, Garrett Clark and Alexis Miestowski. In the clip, Clark is seen charging toward Miestowski and knocking her onto the grass. While standing over her, Clark states, "Do not touch my new driver." Although the companies erased the post from official channels on Friday, clips of the advertisement have continued to circulate on social media platforms.
The removal of the advertisement directly impacts the public messaging of Callaway Golf and the PGA Tour regarding their stated goals for the sport. Callaway officials stated they were disappointed by the content and emphasized a need for an "inclusive space in golf." The PGA Tour, which has increasingly partnered with digital creators to reach younger audiences, explicitly distanced itself from the video, stating that the depiction of violence does not reflect the organization's values or commitment to respect.
What happens next depends on the fallout for the upcoming Austin tournament. While the video has been deleted, Good Good stated it will focus on its mission of making golf more inclusive moving forward. The PGA Tour has not announced any changes to the scheduled Nov. 12-15 tournament following its statement condemning the video. Neither company has reported the specific costs associated with pulling the campaign or if further disciplinary actions will be taken regarding the personalities involved.
