Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Sunday following several weeks of student-led protests regarding irregularities in national examinations. The protests were organized by a group known as the "Cockroach" movement, which advocated for reforms to the testing process and the resignation of senior education officials.
The movement announced it would end its demonstrations after stating that the government had agreed to its primary demands. These demands included the removal of the minister and specific changes to how national entrance exams are administered following reports of paper leaks and grading inconsistencies in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The Prime Minister's office confirmed the resignation and stated that a temporary successor would be named to oversee the ministry. Government officials noted that the transition aims to restore public confidence in the examination system, which millions of Indian students use annually for university admissions.
