Court documents filed by the FBI indicate agents are investigating whether controlled substances were present in the van, citing photos of bags containing a "white crystal-like substance." Teare has challenged this claim, stating the allegation of drugs is inconsistent with information his office has received regarding the vehicle's passengers. The incident follows a similar fatal ICE shooting in Maine, which led to a brief nationwide pause on vehicle stops that was later rescinded.
