St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker won the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. Walker defeated Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Kyle Schwarber in the final round of the competition to become the first player in Cardinals franchise history to win the event.
Walker secured the victory by hitting home runs on each of his final six swings. This performance allowed him to surpass Schwarber’s total in the final round. Walker entered the final round after advancing through earlier stages of the bracket-style tournament.
The event, held annually as part of the MLB All-Star festivities, took place in Philadelphia before a crowd that included many local fans. Despite the regional rivalry between the two teams, Walker completed his final set of swings to claim the title. Schwarber, a representative of the host team, finished as the runner-up.
