Data provider Luminate released its 2026 Midyear Report on Tuesday, showing that global on-demand audio streaming reached 2.8 trillion streams in the first half of the year. This figure represents a 15.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. In the United States, on-demand audio streams rose 8% to 713.5 billion.
The report highlights significant growth in the Latin and Country music genres within the U.S. market. Latin music streams grew 15.1% to 110.1 billion, while Country music streams increased 17.5% to 115.8 billion. Despite these gains, R&B and Hip-Hop remain the most-streamed genres in the U.S., accounting for 24.3% of the market share.
Beyond audio, the report also tracked shifts in video and film. Direct-to-streaming movies experienced a 17.8% increase in viewership, while total series viewership across streaming platforms declined by 3.2%. The data suggests a market shift toward specialized content as the volume of new songs and video titles continues to rise globally.
