Federal agent David Brouillette has been identified by relatives as the officer involved in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero on Monday. Durán Guerrero, a Colombian national, was killed while inside a vehicle with his wife and daughter. The Associated Press reported that court records and interviews with former spouses indicate a history of domestic violence allegations against Brouillette involving two former wives and his children.
Family court documents and interviews detailed allegations of physical and verbal abuse, including a 2023 voicemail in which Brouillette allegedly made threats against his former wife and her family. One former spouse reported seeking multiple protection orders due to claims of stalking and harassment. Relatives stated that Brouillette was hired by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in late 2023, around the time the alleged threatening voicemail was recorded.
The Department of Homeland Security has not officially confirmed Brouillette’s identity. An ICE spokesperson stated the agency would not comment on the identity of officers to avoid potential safety risks to personnel and their families. The agency did not provide comment regarding its background check procedures or hiring practices following questions about the agent's reported history.
