JKMax has issued a recall for approximately 195,000 heated blankets and pads sold on Amazon.com following reports of the products overheating. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall after receiving notification of fire and burn hazards.
The recall follows reports involving the product's internal heating elements. According to the CPSC, there have been 577 instances where blankets smoked, melted, or burned. These malfunctions resulted in 53 reported burn injuries to consumers.
The affected products were sold online between September 2022 and July 2024 as individual units or two-packs. The blankets are made of polyester and were distributed in four colors: blue, gray, brown, and red. Regulators have instructed consumers to stop using the items immediately and contact the manufacturer for a full refund under recall number 24-778.
The scale of the recall indicates a significant distribution through Amazon's marketplace, affecting customers who purchased five specific model numbers: JKMAX-002, JKMAX-7284B, JKMAX-6284B, JKMAX-10090B, and JKMAX-8490B. Those who own these items will need to check the white label on the packaging or the remote control to verify if their unit is included. While the total dollar amount of the refunds was not reported, the return of 195,000 units represents a total replacement of all items sold under these model numbers since 2022.
What happens next is the immediate cessation of use by consumers and the processing of refund requests by JKMax. The products were sold as recently as July 2024. Consumers are advised to locate their model numbers and contact JKMax directly to initiate the refund process.
