The pharmaceutical company Marlex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for one lot of its 10mg Cetirizine Hydrochloride tablets, an over-the-counter allergy medication. According to a notice from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was initiated due to potential cross-contamination with a different medication, Baclofen, which is a muscle relaxant.
The FDA reported that the presence of Baclofen in an allergy medication poses a health risk, particularly to individuals with a hypersensitivity to the drug. Potential adverse effects from accidental Baclofen ingestion can include drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness, or more severe respiratory complications. Marlex Pharmaceuticals stated it has not received any reports of adverse events related to this specific lot at the time of the announcement.
The affected products were distributed nationwide to wholesalers and retail pharmacies. The recall is limited to Lot #020126, with an expiration date of February 2028. Consumers who have purchased the medication are advised to check the lot numbers on the packaging and return any affected products to the point of purchase or dispose of them according to the manufacturer's instructions.
