Indian police are investigating a shooting in Mumbai involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, who survived the incident without sustaining any gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred on a Sunday evening while Shroff was traveling in a car departing a football club in the Juhu suburb.
The 36-year-old actor, known for his debut in the 2014 film Heropanti and his role with the Mumbay FC professional football club, was in the vehicle when the attack took place. Video footage published by several news outlets shows at least two gunmen firing multiple shots at close range toward the front passenger seat as the car moved slowly through a crowd.
Local media reports, citing police, stated that two people were injured in the attack, including Shroff’s driver. Eknath Shinde, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra state, visited Shroff following the event and noted that both the actor and his mother were left shaken by the incident. Shinde stated that such attempts to intimidate people would not be tolerated and pledged to end what he described as hooliganism.
This event follows other recorded attacks on public figures in India. In 2024, police arrested two members of a criminal gang following a gun attack at the home of actor Salman Khan, and politician Baba Siddique was shot and killed in Mumbai during the same year.
The scale of the threat is reflected in the repeated nature of these incidents, with at least three high-profile individuals targeted in Mumbai within a two-year period, including the 2024 killing of Baba Siddique. For the public, these events can lead to increased security cordons and police activity in popular areas like Juhu, potentially altering daily commutes or access to public venues during high-profile departures. The financial and logistical burden of heightened security is often borne by both private individuals and the state government of Maharashtra.
The knock-on effects include potential shifts in how public events for Bollywood actors and athletes are managed, as well as increased pressure on Maharashtra law enforcement to address organized criminal activity. The deputy chief minister’s statement indicates a policy intent to suppress these activities, which may lead to intensified police operations in the coming months. As of the current report, police are continuing their investigation, and specific dates for court proceedings or the identification of additional suspects have not been reported.
