Nottinghamshire Police are searching for a man and a woman who fled the scene after a police officer was shot in Nottingham city centre. The incident occurred shortly before 04:50 BST on Sunday, resulting in the officer being hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the foot.
The officer had approached two suspects on Angel Row when the shooting took place. Authorities confirmed that the officer is currently in stable condition while receiving treatment. Detectives reported that a firearm was recovered at the scene and could be seen within the established police cordon.
Following the shooting, a large police presence remained in the area, with Angel Row closed to the public. The police cordon was extended to St James's Street as investigators worked among fast-food stores and shops. Orange traffic cones and various items were left on the road as evidence while officers maintained a guard at the perimeter.
Local residents will notice a heightened police presence throughout the city as the search for the two suspects continues. Those who work or live in the city centre will face altered daily routines due to the physical barriers near St James's Street. Nottingham City Council leader Neghat Khan stated that every available resource is being deployed to support the investigation. The incident has prompted a coordinated response between the council and Nottinghamshire Police.
The investigation is currently active, and no arrests have been announced. Nottinghamshire Police have requested that anyone with information contact them to assist in the search for the man and woman involved. No specific court dates or deadlines have been set as the suspects remain at large.
