Representative Cleo Fields (D-La.) announced on Tuesday that he will not seek reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Fields, who represents Louisiana's 6th Congressional District, stated he will not run in his current district or any other district in the state.
The decision follows a redistricting process led by the Republican-controlled state legislature. The new map adjusted the boundaries of the 6th District in a manner that increased the Republican-leaning composition of the constituency.
Fields previously served in Congress from 1993 to 1997 before returning to the Louisiana State Senate and eventually winning his current seat. He did not specify his future plans following the conclusion of his current term.
