Subaru of America announced a recall of 541,237 vehicles due to incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) information on certification labels. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the labeling error could lead to owners overloading the vehicles, which increases the risk of a crash.
The recall includes the 2019-2026 Ascent, 2025-2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid, and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid. Subaru reported that it became aware of the issue in May and stated it has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to the defect.
Subaru will begin notifying owners by mail on August 25, 2026. The company plans to provide owners with corrected labels and installation instructions. Alternatively, owners may take their vehicles to a Subaru dealership to have the replacement label applied at no cost.
