Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the company behind the Truth Social platform, reported a second-quarter net loss of $238.1 million. This figure represents an increase from the approximately $20 million loss reported for the same period one year earlier.
The company attributed the widening loss primarily to unrealized losses related to its cryptocurrency holdings. According to the report, digital assets faced pressure during the April-to-June quarter as investors moved away from riskier assets due to uncertainty regarding U.S. interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and outflows from crypto investment products.
Despite the net loss, the company’s quarterly revenue rose to $1.7 million, up from $0.9 million in the prior year's second quarter. TMTG also announced it is seeking new revenue through Truth API, a licensed data feed launched on August 1. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn stated that the company has signed more than 10 customer agreements for the feed, which provides banks and trading firms with access to posts from influential accounts.
Individual users of the Truth Social platform and potential institutional clients will notice the company’s shift toward monetization through the Truth API. With a reported monthly fee of up to $100,000 for the service, the financial burden falls on institutional trading firms and banks seeking rapid data access. This move sets a precedent for how social media platforms founded by political figures may attempt to convert influential user activity into a subscription-based revenue model for financial markets.
The report also signals broader strategic shifts that may affect the energy and technology sectors. McGurn noted progress toward a proposed $6 billion merger with TAE Technologies, a fusion energy developer. If completed, this would move TMTG into the artificial intelligence data center market. The next key milestone for the company involves the continued onboarding of partners for its Truth API, which began operations at the start of August, and further updates on the TAE Technologies merger timeline.
