Two individuals have been charged in connection with a house fire on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, that resulted in the deaths of four members of a family in Waterford. A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were scheduled to appear before Clonmel District Court on Saturday, October 17.
The incident occurred at the home of Philip and Kim English, who died in the fire alongside their two sons, 12-year-old Callum and nine-year-old Jayden. Two other children from the family survived but remain in critical condition at a hospital. An Garda Síochána is treating the case as a murder investigation.
Police arrested the two suspects on Thursday, October 15. During the investigation, officers conducted several searches and seized multiple items. Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly stated on Friday that he expects additional arrests to be made.
Commissioner Kelly further noted that the agency has allocated "every resource" to the investigation. The legal proceedings for the two charged individuals were set to begin with their court appearance in Clonmel.
Family members, neighbors, and the public will see the impact of this case through the legal system as the two suspects face charges in district court. A person following this case would notice a police presence in the area as Commissioner Kelly indicated that more arrests are anticipated.
The effects include the medical and psychological support required for the two surviving children and the coordination for the victims' funerals. Funerals for Philip, Kim, Callum, and Jayden English are scheduled to take place in Waterford on Monday, October 19, 2026.
