Serhiy Koretskyi, current CEO of state energy firm Navtozgaz, has been identified by officials as the likely candidate to succeed Svyrydenko as prime minister.
Lawmakers and analysts have offered varied interpretations of the cabinet changes. Member of Parliament Oleg Dunda stated the move followed a failure by the previous cabinet to adequately implement energy resilience plans. Conversely, some observers noted that the overhaul arrives despite recent battlefield gains credited to current leadership. Zelenskyy is expected to move Svyrydenko to the role of Ambassador to the United States, replacing Olha Stefanishyna, who also submitted her resignation this week.
Further personnel changes are under consideration, including the potential replacement of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Reports from the Economist and local officials suggest friction between Fedorov and senior military commanders, as well as concerns regarding his rising political popularity. Zelenskyy met with several top officials on Wednesday, including Fedorov and acting Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, but has not yet finalized additional appointments.
