The Trump administration announced on Tuesday the launch of 'Gold Eagle,' a cybersecurity clearinghouse designed to identify and repair software vulnerabilities discovered by artificial intelligence. The initiative aims to support federal agencies, critical infrastructure operators, and AI developers in patching security flaws flagged by advanced models. The program fulfills a requirement set by an executive order signed on June 2.
Administration officials stated that the clearinghouse was launched internally by July 2, meeting the deadline established in the executive order, though the public announcement occurred on July 14. The program will utilize existing AI models, such as Anthropic’s Mythos, to scan for and address potential threats. Officials noted that frontier model developers have been involved in the design and development of the system over the past several months.
National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross credited open-source AI developers for their contributions to the project. The launch follows previous administration actions to place export controls on certain AI models and ongoing discussions regarding security risks associated with open-source technology. Participation in the Gold Eagle initiative is currently voluntary for industry partners.
