In northeastern Minnesota, the U.S. Forest Service ordered the evacuation of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness due to the Wood Lake fire. Approximately 2,000 visitors were directed to leave the remote protected area as the fire grew to over 2,000 acres. Officials cited persistent dry conditions and shifting winds as factors in the manual evacuation.
Canadian authorities reported more than 100 active wildfires in Ontario and Quebec. Environmental agencies in both countries are monitoring fine particulate matter levels, which have reached unhealthy ranges in major metropolitan areas. Health officials have advised residents to limit outdoor exertion while the smoke remains concentrated in the atmosphere.
